

This is an HTTPS server that handles the API notification messages that are triggered when a resource changes. To use push notifications, you need to do two things: Set up your receiving URL, or 'Webhook' callback receiver. I do wish that the alert emails could be customized but that's small potatoes. Whenever a watched resource changes, the Google Drive API notifies your application. Google does not see itself as an internal source.

Also, if you use a group address, you need to allow posts from external sources. You can report it when they share a spam document with you, but the ones I've been getting (starting on May 28th, I'm at 183 of them as of 5 mins ago) are just mentioning me in their spam document and not sharing it. Then whenever you want to change who the alerts go to, you can just modify the group rather than having to ticker with the alert rules. From what I can tell, you can't report people mentioning you in a document that hasn't been shared with you. for the email recipient, make it a group address that you create. Alternatively, you could use "Contains" instead of "Is" if you wanted to make a rule that monitors multiple drives that follow a naming convention. If you need to specify a specific Shared Drive, then add another condition and specify in the Attribute pulldown, "Owner", "Is", "" (where is the name of the shared drive that you want to monitor).In Attribute pulldown, select "Event", "Is", "Upload", respectively in each pulldown.Under Data source pulldown, select Reporting rules -> Drive log events.Then name the rule, keep scope set to Entire domain, click Next: View Conditions.In Google Workspace, go to Rules -> Create rule -> Reporting or Activity. Rather than setting up notifications on every document you share, you may just want to know if any document in a particular folder is being edited.Choose one of the options, and follow the on-screen steps.

I gave it a shot and the audit alerts functionality does allow for this and it works fairly well, and instantaneously. Choose one of the options, and follow the on-screen steps.
